Sales versus Marketing


I don't understand why there is such a misalignment between sales and marketing, shouldn't we be on the same team? Don't we work for the same company?

Over 80% of companies statistically have competing goals between these two departments, causing a rift between two groups that absolutely should be cohesive.

One is focused on quantity, and the other is focused on quality. I believe the issue stems with either misguided directive from the executive level, or lack of clarity in the overall company vision/mission.

To get to the core of this frustration, i'd like to clarify that the frustration isn't necessarily the existence of contradictory and competing goals, it is more so the response to this existing frustration, "this is how it is in every company." The response, leaves no room for resolve, no room for co-collaboration and no room for cross-departmental goal realignment.

I think blowing off the issue as a 'corporate standard,' doesn't set the standards for your company's success very high at all.
